Background of Professor Chao Co-Shi:
Professor Chao Co-Shi is currently a professor of the Nursing Department of Taiwan National Cheng Kung University. Before assuming the teaching position, she has served in National Taiwan University Hospital and Taipei Veterans General Hospital respectively. Professor Chao obtained her masterˇ¦s degree in oncology nursing and PhD degree in hospice / palliative care in the United States. After graduation in Year 1993, she went to the United Kingdom to pursue further studies. Upon return to Taiwan, she started developing the hospice-palliative care system with medical teams in Taiwan. Owing to Professor Chaoˇ¦s perseverance in striving for ˇ§hospice careˇ¨ for terminally ill patients, the ˇ§Hospice-Palliative Care Actˇ¨ was legalized in Taiwan in Year 2000, and she was then entitled the ˇ§Mother of Hospice Care of Taiwanˇ¨. For the past years, Professor Chao has been dedicating herself to nursing researches, nursing education and teaching of clinical nursing. Moreover, in order to provide better care for patients and their family members, she has been sparing every effort to consistently enhance the development of nursing profession.
