KWNC Holds Two Sports Competitions to Enhance Students’ Physical and Mental Health

Aiming at facilitating students’ all-round intellectual and physical development, enriching their campus life and relieving their stress of studying, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) held two competition activities earlier this month. One was “Teacher-Student Competition Day 2013/2014” organized by the College’s Benevolence Education Centre, the other was “Sports Competition Day for Nursing Students” co-organized by the students’ unions of KWNC and the School of Health Sciences of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI). By constantly organizing a variety of on-campus and off-campus recreational activities, the College hopes to cultivate students’ knowledge and specializations, enhance their confidence and sociability through multiple ways, and hence promote their physical and mental health.

The “Teacher-Student Competition Day 2013/2014” was held on 7 March 2014 at the Auditorium of Kiang Wu Hospital, composing of rounds of games and a lunch gathering. During the competition, teaching and non-teaching staff blended in with four different student teams, and joined forces with their own team of students to fight for championship. Year 1 students won a victory in the first game “Untie the Knots” by loosening their interlocking hands within a very short period of time. Following that, Year 3 students won both the second and the third games “Horizontal Walk” and “Back to Back”.

Year 1 student Miss Lao Sin Teng and Miss Cheong Sio Man expressed that the games were very exciting that they would give support to and participate in similar activities in the future. They hoped that the College would organize this kind of activities more often so they could relieve their stress of studying and strengthen cohesion with fellow students. Moreover, in order to establish a closer teacher-student relationship, they hoped that more staff members could join these activities in the future.

In addition to the above College-held competition, Students’ Union of KWNC also organized another competition named “Sports Competition Day for Nursing Students” in collaboration with its counterpart of the School of Health Sciences of MPI. The competition was held on 1 March 2014 at the Multisport Pavilion of MPI, with the presence of President Van Iat Kio and a number of her faculty members and students as cheerleaders. Being the first inter-college student activity ever held, the competition served as testing for further collaboration between the two institutions. Moreover, it offered a great opportunity to enrich students’ extra-curricular life and promote friendship between students of both institutions.
