KWNC Delegation Visits Taiwan to Foster Collaborations and Exchanges

Led by Vice-President Xing Zhihong, a delegation of six members of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) went on an academic exchange trip to Taiwan during 19 to 22 January 2014, aiming at opening up more channels of talent nurture, establishing partnership and promoting the mutal development of nursing education of both straits. During the trip, the delegation visited Chang Gung University of Science and Technology, National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences, Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taipei Cardinal Tien Hospital and Cardinal Tien Junior College of Healthcare and Management.

The delegation paid a visit to Chang Gung University of Science and Technology where an academic cooperation agreement was signed with its President Professor Ying-Tung Lau. Following the signing, the delegation had a discussion with the representatives of the University including Dean of Academic Affairs Professor Hsiu-Min Tsai, Director of Center for International Affairs and Academic Exchange Ms. Ya-Chu Hsiao, Director of Department of Nursing Professor Sui-Whi Jane, Director of Division of Nursing Professor Yu-Hsin Wang regarding student exchange programme and scientific research colloborations between teaching staff of the two institutions.

The delegation also visited National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences. Its Director of Office of Research and Development Professor Shu-Fang Wu and Director of Graduate Institute of Tourism and Health Science Professor Hsing-Fen Tang gave an introduction of the University and exchanged views with the delegation members on the cultivation of all-round health care professionals. After the exchange session, the delegation particularly visted the University’s Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Centre to obtain reference material for the design of the clinical assessment adopted in Macao.

To lay a groundwork for the expansion of KWNC’s clinical study venues, the delegation also paid a visit to Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Taipei Cardinal Tien Hospital to learn more about the two hospitals’ characteristics and environment of clinical studies. During the visit, the delegation was received by the Superintendent of Cardinal Tien Hospital Dr. Sai-Hung Tang .

With the help of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (Macao), the delegation was also able to pay a visit to the Ministry of Education of Taiwan and had a discussion with the Ministry representatives about the recongition of KWNC’s bachelor’s degree qualification in Taiwan.

Members of the delegation included Vice-President Xing Zhihong, Executive Officer Leong Sok Man, Assistant Professor Ng Wai I, Lecturer Wang Sichen, Assistant Professor Chuang Yao-Chen and Technician Mr. Wu Chi Long. All of them expressed that they had greatly benefited from this trip. The diversification and foresight of Taiwan’s nursing and health care education as well as the experience of teaching quality assurance are worth emulating and of reference value for KWNC in the establishment of its new campus.
