KWNC’s 90th Anniversary Gala Dinner was Successfully Held |

In celebration of its 90th anniversary of founding, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) held a number of celebratory activities including Alumni Meeting and Gala Dinner on 22 November 2013. Commenced in 2012, the series of celebratory activities have been co-organized by the College, Students’ Union and Alumni Association, through which all College members look back on its past and ahead to the future. Following the two activities “Reminiscence of Senior Alumni” and “Alumni Meeting” held in the morning, the “College’s 90th Anniversary Gala Dinner” was held in the evening, jointly officiated by Dr. Fernando Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of Macao SAR, Mr. Edmond Ho Hau Wah, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political and Consultative Conference and Perpetual President of Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association (KWHCA), Mr. Chen Sixi, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR, Mr. Cheong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao SAR, Dr. Wu Zhiliang, President of the Administrative Committee of Macao Foundation, Dr. Lei Chin Ion, Director of Health Bureau of Macao SAR Government, Mr. Sou Chio Fai, Director of Tertiary Education Services Office of Macao SAR Government, Mr. Hoi Sai Iun, Vice-President of KWHCA and Honorary Vice-Chairman of Board of Directors of KWNC, Mr. Fong Chi Keong, Chairman of Board of Directors of KWHCA and Board of Directors of KWNC, Ms. Li Xiuhua, Board Chair of Chinese Nursing Association, Professor Florence Van Iat Kio, President of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, Ms. Leong Pou Heng, President of Alumni Association of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau and the Hospital Kiang Wu Nursing and Midwifery School of Macau, Ms. Lam Si Wai, President of Students’ Union of KWNC. Chairman Fong Chi Keong mentions in his speech that KWNC has been adhering to Florence Nightingale’s spirit of selfless devotion and putting great efforts in promoting its educational philosophy of “From Personhood to Benevolence” over the past nice decades. To date, the College has nurtured over 2,200 qualified nurses and among which nearly 600 are graduates of the bachelor’s degree programme. Some of them have become the chief cornerstones of health care and social service institutions. Their passion, devotion and diligence for the nursing profession have earned them high regard from society while the College is also given the recognition of being the cradle of nurses. In an effort to achieve a sustainable development for the College and act in concert with MSAR Government’ s policy direction, the College formulated the “Outline of a Ten Year Plan for the New Campus and Future Development” in 2010. At present, enhancement has been made in a number of aspects including the level of programmes and student quality. Moreover, all tasks are progressing steadily towards the set goals and have produced perceptible results. Looking ahead, Chairman Fong expresses that the mode of nursing has been transformed into a system of accountability where humanistic care centres and the system attaches high importance to the application of professional skills and knowledge and provision of holistic care. In the future, the Board will continue offering support for the College in carrying forward the spirit of Florence Nightingale and putting continuous effort into the development of Macao’s nursing profession. Finally, on behalf of KWHCA and the Board of Directors of KWNC, Chairman Fong extends his gratitude to the MSAR Government, enthusiastic associations and participants from all walks of life of society as well as the College staff for their steadfast support for the College, and the long-year efforts and devotion made to the nursing education. The College was host to more than 80 tables that evening and the dinner was attended by guests of the nursing field from Macao, Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong, representatives of higher education institutions, community associations, College alumni, staff members and students. At the dinner, champagne opening, cake cutting and toasting were arranged to mark the beginning of the College’s 91st Years. Following that, some awards such as the Glory Award, Photography and Micro Film Awards were presented and a number of performances were given by College alumni, students and staff members. The entire dinner was filled with joy and every attendee had a great evening.
