|
In order to convey the message of care for AIDS patients, the affiliated association of the Students’ Union - Glory of Care recently held a Theme Talk named “Feel with Heart and Care with Love” at the Auditorium of Kiang Wu Hospital on 1 March 2013. Glory of Care invited the representative of AIDS Prevention and Control Commission Ms. Lei Wai Kei to introduce the latest situation of AIDS in Macao and the roles of medical practitioners in AIDS control and prevention. Glory of Care has also initiated its cooperation with Hong Kong AIDS Foundation, and invited the Foundation’s Social Worker Mr. Jason and Volunteer Worker Mr. Eddie to have a face-to-face dialogue with the audience. Since the day of the Theme Talk coincides with the 8 th anniversary of founding of Glory of Care, its former President Ms. Lo Man Sau and founding President Ms. Kong Pui San are invited to give some sharing. They both share their attachment to Glory of Care and the association's accomplishments over the past eight years. They express that AIDS is not simply a standalone disease but it may also create great impact to the society, and thus, medical personnel should pay more attention to AIDS and show more care to the patients. Following the sharing, current members of Glory of Care report their work of the past semester and work plan of the coming semester. Afterwards, President Van Iat Kio, Professor Zhu Mingxia, Ms. Lei Wai Kei, Mr. Jason and Mr. Eddie are invited to the stage to kick off the Talk. Ms. Lei Wai Kei introduces that Macao belongs to a low incidence region. In Macao, non-local residents currently account for a higher percentage of AIDS cases, and there was an increase in the number of male-male transmission cases in Year 2012. Ms. Lei also manifests the role of medical personnel in the handling of AIDS and AIDS patients. She shares some real cases and conducts scenario analyses to deepen audience's understanding on AIDS patients' physical and mental changes. Further to Ms. Lei’s introduction, Mr. Jason and Mr. Eddie share their work experiences and heartfelt wishes about AIDS. Mr. Eddie expresses that friends’ support is a crucial aid for AIDS patients. By participating in various voluntary activities, Mr. Eddie would like to evoke people’s care for AIDS, alleviate patients’ mental burden and eventually achieve zero discrimination against them. Mr. Jason encourages nursing students to care about AIDS patients’ mental needs and offer them more loving care. He also asks students to make the most of themselves to contribute to the society. |
