College Teachers and Students Participate in Ageing Indicator Survey

In response to the growing ageing population of Macao, Social Welfare Bureau of Macao is now collecting genuine data in preparation for the future development of elderly services. The second phase of “Macao’s Ageing Indicator” – “Service Indicator” questionnaire survey is launched this January. As a co-organizer of the survey, our College is responsible for carrying out survey interviews. It is believed that this task will serve as a service-related learning activity for our students and allow the College to make some contribution to the local society. In this phase, 1,700 households are randomly selected to be the interview respondents and it aims at collecting their feedback to complete a total of 800 questionnaires. About 100 teachers and students of our College will participate in this survey serving as instructors and survey helpers to carry out in-home interviews during 3 to 25 January, 2013.

To ascertain the quality of the survey, trainings are particularly provided for the survey helpers. Director of Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies of Lingnan University (Hong Kong) Professor Cheung-ming Chan and Professor Zhu Mingxia of our College earlier gave the helpers a full illustration and demonstration about conducting face-to-face interview, and introduced them to the interview techniques. When conducting the interview, instructors and helpers will wear the College’s sports uniform and put on a work permit issued by the College. On the work permit, we can find the names and logos of Social Welfare Bureau of Macao, Lingnan University (Hong Kong) and Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, and survey helper’s name and position, etc. Survey helpers will pay visits to the selected respondents from 9am to 10pm daily, and will only enter the respondents’ apartments after obtaining their permission. For enquiries about the survey or the identity of the survey helpers, please contact the survey unit on 8295-6257or 6613-6786.
