“Action of Love Giving” Activity I – Health Check for the Elderly

The Students’ Union of our College is going to organize a series of community care activities under the activity name “Action of Love Giving”, aiming at conveying loving care to Macao citizens while celebrating the College’s 90th Anniversary. The first activity of the series “Health Check for the Elderly” kicked off on 10 November 2012.

On that day, the activity commenced at 11am at the recreation ground of Lok Yeong Garden of Fai Chi Kei. More than 30 College students actively took part in the event and assisted the elderly in measuring body mass index, bone density, blood sugar and blood pressure. Throughout the day, over 300 elders received health check and obtained information about their health condition. The elders gave high commendation for the students’ seriousness and professionalism, and the careful arrangement of the whole activity. In the afternoon, the Choir of the Students’ Union added colours to the activity by bringing a number of amazing songs to the audience. The event concluded successfully at 5pm.

By participating in the health check activity, students have learned the procedures and techniques of planning and organizing an activity, and more importantly, they have gained a precious experience of community care and elderly nursing by applying their knowledge and skills learned at school to actual practice. Moreover, they have deepened their understanding on the importance of conveying heartfelt care during the process of nursing.
