KWNC Inaugurates Tong On Nursing Laboratory and Nursing & Health Education Research Centre

To support the establishment of teaching, scientific researches and social services and to enhance their quality, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) sets up two new teaching facilities - Tong On Nursing Laboratory and Nursing & Health Education Research Centre in this Academic Year.

With the aim of promoting students’ pragmatic competence in adult nursing and other clinical operation, Tong On Nursing Laboratory provides students with a more realistic simulated clinical environment and the required practice facilities for taking care of critically-ill patients. Among hospital beds in the Laboratory, three of them are equipped with one-way reflective mirror and self-assisted video recording system. With the system, students can record the whole process of their practice and produce it into video clips that suit the requirement of the subject. By reviewing the video clips, students are able to understand their learning progress and the improvement needed in a better way. The system not only enhances teachers’ consistency, objectivity and efficiency in assessing students’ performance, but also encourages students to take the initiative to learn and make improvement accordingly.

Moreover, the Nursing & Health Education Research Centre serves as a community integrating elderly-based teaching, scientific researches and social services. It mainly facilitates the study of elderly health related issues, provides professional support to government policies, teaching and social services, and initiates regional and international exchanges and collaboration. The Centre consists of a memory centre offering services to detect early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Besides, a helpline is set up to offer the general public some knowledge about Alzheimer’s disease, its caring skills, handling of patient-related problems, and community resources, etc.
