Mr. Yang Chong wei, Deputy Coordinator of the Office of Personal Data Protection, was invited to speak to the general staff of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau on "Personal Data Protection Act" at a explanation meeting held on Nov. 19, aiming to enhance the sense of personal data protection and awareness of duty of confidentiality among staff members and to get every member convinced of the relevant ordinance contents. Deputy Coordinator Yang gave an outline of and explained about the essentials of “Personal Data Protection Act”, such as basic definition of personal data; what the right of data owner is; points for attention and legal responsibilities of an organization. During question and answer session, it is found that handling of personal data involved in Clinical studies and scientific research is the major concern of staff members. On this issue, Mr. Yang indicated that so far official procedures in Macau have not yet been stipulated, so it needs more proposals from practitioners at this stage.
