At the meeting, President Van and other College members indicated that More than 60 per cent of the nursing workers in service are graduates from Kiang Wu. The KWNC graduates, known for their earnest loving hearts, hard-working, dedication and service spirit, have devoted into nursing career immediately upon graduation so as to make a 100 per cent occupation rate. Being always valued positively by their employers, excellent and outstanding students have been coming forth generation after generation over the past ages. For recent years, teachers’ qualification and quality of teaching have been enhanced constantly to make the teaching team of more diversified and professionalized formation. To keep pace with the times, the College education by combining the three sectors of formal programmes validated by international experts, informal programmes with extra-curricular activities are aiming to cultivate nursing talents of the new millennium. Like PSBH workshop in collaboration with the Dreyfus Health Foundation and the Nursing College of Peking Union Medical University, the health promotion teaching project has been highly evaluated by the cooperators. For the past five years, the Extra-Mural Studies Department have organized up to 300 and more programmes or courses in popular science and healthcare jointly with the government departments and social communities, of which, participants numbered nearly 20,000. With regard to the scientific research, there is a multiple increase in number of study projects respectively commissioned by government departments, private organizations or in the form of application for financial subsidies. Meanwhile, Papers or theses published by faculty members are increasing in numbers, that shows more and more solid power is attainable in research field. Chairman Fong first appreciated that the College has fostered a great number of nursing professionals for the society by running Macau’s first full-time BSN programme over the past 11 years since her founding in 1999. He especially showed admiration for the notion of “From Personhood to Benevolence” advocated by the College. “Benevolence” represents love, mercy, which is most needed for our nursing workers who take care of human and face the precious life everyday. Besides, foreign language competence also plays essential roles for healthcare workers to head for the world and develop professionalism. We should carry forward the western culture of communication more with people to show concern and love for our colleagues and clients. He emphasized that education is the foundation for growth and prosperity in any nation and society; not only significant in cultivation of talents is an educational institution, but also in enhancement of personal quality and character, which are the basis of total development of individuals. Yet it is not easy to run well an institution. At present, the limited campus has got admission restricted to meet requirements of the SAR government and communities. Nevertheless, once the leading potential of the executives is given full play, plus the self-reliance spirit of general staff, it is expected that more fruitful results will be achieved on basis of historical achievement. He encouraged the staff members to strive for scientific thinking and rigorous management while pushing forward the College development Moreover, the medical workers must pay attention to the three major factors, e.g. loving heart, mercy heart and sense of responsibility. Finally he promised that the Board of Directors would give full support to the College development. Other visiting Board leaders and Directors also addressed the meeting. Escorted by President Van and teachers, Chairman Fong and other Board members took campus tour after the meeting around the laboratories, library, lecture theatres and classrooms, where they carefully got the picture of how every function room works and showed great interests in the models and instruments in nursing lab. In observing students taking training there, Chairman Fong and Directors had a short talk with some students from mainland China to understand their life in Macau while expressing much concern over their pursuit in nursing here.
