The reopening ceremony of BSN Programme 2010/2011 was held on Aug. 27th in the College Lecture Theatre. Over 60 new students respectively from 29 secondary schools in Macau, Guangxi, Henan and Hebei have been admitted to the programme. President Florence Van first brought up the important roles our medical workers play and how meaningful to work as a nursing worker by referring to the latest unfortunate debris flow disaster in Mainland China and the tragedy event of Hong Kong people being hijacked and killed in Philippine. She encouraged students to study well and treasure lives. In view of the serious nursing shortage currently suffering in Macau, under the great supports from both the SAR government and the society to nursing education and health career, it is believed that the nursing profession they have chosen will have a bright prospect.
The theme of College this academic year is ¡§Show concern for our nation and Macau SAR while improving total quality and nursing care competencies.¡¨ Series of theme talks and lectures given by external specialists or scholars is scheduled to organize. Each talk will put forward a topic through presenation of Macau¡¦s latest development and state-of-the-art services and by linking together a number of health elements, so that students will be inspired to promote health and care the community. For education sector, a new Department of Education has been established lately to be responsible for planning and management of the College teaching work. Meanwhile, optimizing reforms of the Student Support System and student affairs work team including Student Affairs Coordinator, Counselor and Instructors have been made to intensify student-oriented holistic education. The College keeps on supporting the development of Students¡¦ Union and its affiliated organizations in expectation of an integrated development and professional growth through participation in different activities and communication with people and the society.
Deputy Director of Kiang Wu Hospital, Dr. Chan Tai Ip, presented the hospital¡¦s service status quo at the ceremony. He gives prominence to the quality of nursing staff that means a lot to the enhancement of the quality of medical services. Then different awards including ¡§Best Progress Award¡¨, ¡§Award for Self-directed Learning¡¨, ¡§Award for Benevolent Social
Services¡¨ and ¡§College Prestige Promotion Award¡¨ were presented respectively by the honored guests from Board of Directors of the College, KWH and Alumni Association. Next came the presentation of the ¡§Best Clinical Preceptor Award¡¨ of which the winner is Nurse Wong Chi Va of KWH. Finally, flowers and souvenir were given to Director Lo Siu Ha of Nursing Department KWH to express gratitude for her great support to the clinical teaching work and the College development. Other guests attending the ceremony were also Deputy Director Sandy Ng from Nursing Department KWH and the head nurse of the Fifth Subsidiary Sun Yat-sen University Hospital.
A one-week induction programme for new students was organized from Aug. 30th to Sept. 3rd where freshmen could get to know the College history, the curriculum design, student affairs, library and information system application as well as team games aiming to help them adapt to the tertiary learning settings as soon as possible.
