A Visit to Five Guangdong Hospitals |

With the rapid development of society, there have been pressing needs for medical and healthcare services in Macau these years, nurses are highly demanded to meet requirements of residents, as a result, applicants for examination to enter Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau’s nursing programmes have recorded sustained growth in number for recent years. In response to the requirements and anticipation for nursing education of the SAR government and the general public, the College has admitted sixty new students for the next academic year, an increase shown in admission quotas.
In order to meet clinical study demands of students, a ten-member delegation of KWNC headed by President Florence Van and Assistant to President Xing Zhi Hong paid visits to five hospitals in Guangdong Province on July 14 and 15. The visits aim to observe and investigate the superiority and distinguishing features of these institutions in respect of nursing, teaching and scientific research; to boost collaborative exchange of each other while promoting mutual friendship and exploring feasibility of opening up practice bases. The units visited include Shilong Boai Hospital and Konghua Hospital in Dongguan affiliated with Guangdong Medical College, Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center and the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University (Overseas Chinese Hospital). The visitors were warmly received by the relevant directors and nursing department directors of these institutions. They gave briefings on the general condition and major specialties, also presenting in detail the nursing department operation, the feature projects and their staff training, etc. Then the delegation had a tour around various specialist departments in the hospitals.
During visits, the delegation members are impressed by these institutions’ running mode, basic education for management and nursing staff, their continuing education and training as well as the development in specialization of hospital services. Both parties had a good exchange of views over the topics such as functions of nursing workers, manpower development and allocation, clinical instruction setting, health and care giving research, etc. The delegation was also invited to a feast hosted by Director-General Guan Minzheng of Guangdong Dongguan Health Bureau on July 14, where members met with the nursing department directors from various major hospitals and the nursing association leaders. Director-General Guan put forward proposal that both parties need to enhance collaboration and communication so as to promote nursing exchanges between Macau and Dongguan.
