Conclusive speech by President Van at the closing ceremony
President Van Iat Kio concluded in closing ceremony that one of the key topics in contemporary education is to put equal emphasis on humanism and competency, covering such aspects as creative training, cross-subject education, international vision, leadership cultivation and community care, etc. Nurses, especially under influence of traditional thinking that the majority of practitioners is female, should go the way of independent thinking and constantly strive to become stronger. The roles they should play well and the missions to fulfill are caregiver, educator, researcher and administrator. Only when they successfully promote researches and originality, provide quality services and care to the society, they could find real development and satisfaction to act as a true nurse. She gave special thanks to the attending experts’ advice and instruction in response to many clinical nursing issues put forward by speakers. They proposed some thinking styles for better problem solving which could enlighten clinical nurses’ mind in scientific research. Finally she appealed more resources and manpower should be considered for cross-over or cross-organization researches while an ethical committee should be established to stipulate relevant rules in this aspect.

The first KWNC & KWH joint academic symposium came to a successful end which facilitated the enhancement of quality for the clinical caregivers as well as teachers and students from both units and to create a mutual cooperation platform for further exchange.
