In these ceremonies, witnessed by a number of distinguished guests, 41 year-3 students were conferred nurse caps by senior nursing professionals respectively from Hospital Authority Hong Kong, CHCSJ Macau, Kiang Wu Hospital and KWNC; and then all the year-4 students were fastened on the KWNC pins by College teachers, Alumni representative and senior nurse from KWH.

Sylvia Fung Yuk-kuen, the Chief Manager (Nursing) of Hospital Authority Hong Kong first made a profile on current development status of nursing in Hong Kong and the vision of HA. She encouraged students to study hard in respect of three “Hs” (Head, Hands and Heart). Nurses who are the only ones staying beside patients 24 hours round are required to have good power of judgment and thinking in daily clinical work. Meanwhile students should also be equipped with information and technology as well as mathematic skills to come into international contact as well as to provide precise nursing services. Nursing is a more practical profession, the core of which requires integration of theory and practice, therefore students should strive to grasp clinical study opportunities and to experience clinical nursing as much as they can. Another essential factor is the heart, the loving heart and true care of a nurse, which should be really devoted during nursing services so that patient care is given full play.

Student representative Leong Ka Man shared her feeling of being conferred the nursing cap that symbolizes a sacred angel’s demeanor. To get ready for the following year of clinical study, she has made up her mind to carry out the mission of a nurse with benevolent spirit in the post while being responsible for personal nursing behavior. Student representative from graduating class Leong Lai Ian thanked teachers for devoting all their attention to coaxing and cultivating students, hence they could be growing into a nurse-to-be with both humanistic care and professional competency. In future nursing career, they would always remember to carry forward the College spirit of “From Personhood to Benevolence” and dedicate themselves to nursing industry.

President Van gave her best wishes to all graduates-to-be and hoped they could apply what they had learned over the four years to future work posts and make contributions to Macau’s medical services. She also encouraged year-3 students to inherit the glorious tradition of nursing seniors in the soon practice period, have no fear of difficulties and give full play the theoretical knowledge to clinical practice.

To commemorate May-12 Nurses Day, Students’ Union has specially launched a “Nursing Material Design Competition” which was scheduled to make an award presentation in the ceremony. The event has been running for years and has attracted a great number of students to design different creative and convenient nursing tools. These small inventions have facilitated students’ innovative thinking and inspired their caring heart. The creativity was a pleasant surprise to all, and practicality was great as well.
