Fund-raising Campaign for Qinghai Yushu Quake-hit Area

Disasters in mainland China have come one after another since last autumn, but helping hands are giving in thick and fast from everywhere. Subsequence to a drought disaster around China’s southwestern area last fall that brought about more than 6000 victims, a strong 7.1 earthquake has just struck off the Yushu County in Qinghai Province in April this year, causing over 12,000 people injured and the death toll has mounted to 2,000 and more. Relief campaigns now are being launched all over the country. Continuous rescue work has been organized over the quake-hit area, to tell fully how the Chinese people have exerted themselves to relieve compatriots’ danger and save their lives.

To show our care for the Disaster-affected people, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau launched a fund-raising campaign in the campus soon after the quake. On April 21 at 10 am, lead by President Florence Van, faculty and students congregated in a 3-minute silent salute to the death victims in Yushu earthquake, together with all the Chinese people at that moment, to express our deepest and sincere mourning.

The campaign collected a fund of MOP 140,000 and was then donated to the related Chinese departments via the Liaison Office in Macao SAR by representatives of the College. It is our hope that even our donation is too insignificant to mention, but could still be able to help the quake-affected people out of their predicament and rebuild their homes.
