Scholars’ Talks on Motherland Development, Guangdong-HK-Macau Cooperation and Gaming Topics

Under the theme of the academic year “Show concern for our nation and Macau SAR” to match the 60th & 10th anniversary celebrations of our Motherland and Macau, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau has organized two sessions of theme talks by experts and scholars on the topics of “The Soaraway Success of Motherland and An innovative way to promote Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Cooperation”, “Problem Gambling and Responsible Gaming”. Ms. Leong Iuk Va, the Kiang Wu Hospital’s ER & OPD Consultant, Deputy President of Nurses Association of Macau and Macau Representative in NPC, Prof. Ieong Tou Hong, the Director-general of Macau Economy Promotion Association and Member of Guangdong Provincial Committee of CPPCC, Mr. Davis Fong, the Director of Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming, UM. were invited to give speeches for teachers and students in KWNC’s lecture theatre.
Consultant Leong exulted in the successful development of our nation’s power and vitality of the Chinese people in the new era. She was encouraged by the current status that Macau SAR with a population of only 500,000 people can occupy a seat in the national conference. She indicated to teachers and students the fruitful achievement of new China throughout the 60 years in the fields of GDP, commodities and service demands, economic structure and foreign economic relations, infrastructure and quality of life, scientific and technological development, education, culture, health, sports and environmental sectors. Likewise, she pointed out the NPC system is significant for the development and stability of China’s democracy and rule of law.
Prof. Ieong presented the background and content of the Reform of the Pearl River Delta Region Development Plan. The cooperation modules can be built up from various levels including Guangdong-HK-Macau, Guangdong-Macau, Hong Kong-Macau and Zhuhai-Macau, etc. to form a network link for an ultimate goal of connecting major infrastructure facilities, strengthening inter-enterprise cooperation and jointly building up an optimized living area. The reform and development of Pearl River Delta Region would certainly offer opportunities for the G-H-M cooperation and favorable for the appropriate diversification of Macau’s economic development. Teachers and Students recognized the cooperation would not only facilitate stability and prosperity of the city, but also give potential development opportunities for the College, providing more rooms for tertiary educational complementation in training of health and nursing talents.

In his speech, Dr. Fong explored the inside of problem gambling and responsible gaming. He presented in details the definition of gambling, the meaning of problem gambling and pathological gambling and their influence on society, analyzing the main reason of people’s indulging in gambling by means of the research finding and summing up “8 gaming tips” to prevent from morbid gamblers. Dr. Fong’s description and interpretation of the “responsible gaming” were found fresh and new among the audients and got enthusiastic responses.
