President Van made a brief introduction about the College for the guest, to her history, programmes, foreign exchanges and cooperation, research and social services, etc. She thanked ICN for its long guidance and support to the College, always assisting with the improvement of total academic quality in respect of pedagogy, research, international cooperation and social services, thus in a position to make contributions to nursing professional enhancement, the popularization of nursing knowledge, and the health promotion of Macau citizens.
To explore substantial approaches and ways to the health and well-being of the local communities, the College had been actively developing her scientific research projects these years, said President Van. Investigations and exchanges related to many cooperation projects and agreements signed between the College and the famous domestic and overseas tertiary institutions had been conducted continuously. For further pushing the development of academic research in nursing and hygienic science in the locality, the College had published periodically the “Macau Journal of Nursing” and had accomplished many government-commissioned research projects, such as the “Research on the Long-Term Care Needs of the Elderly in Macao”, A Ten-Year Plan for the Nursing Manpower in Macau”, etc.
Then Lecturer Milly Ng introduced in her presentation the academic notion of the College programme, which recommends a people-oriented nursing study, focused on benevolence, character, knowledge, talent, lifelong learning, scientific thinking and dedication, so as to overall embody the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen spirit. The student representatives shared their feeling for different kinds of scientific investigations and activities they had participated in together with the teachers. Through such social practice they could intensify what they have learnt in the classroom about the educational philosophy “From Personhood to Benevolence”.
After visiting around the KWNC campus and listening to the presentation, Mr. David Benton gave valuable comments for the College in five points: 1. the College’s nurturing a large quantity of nursing professionals even in a poverty of resources; the alignment of education notion covering through the classroom, practice and extracurricular activities deserved a high praise. 2. He appreciated that the College not only valued theoretical knowledge, but also placed emphasis on caring skills. 3. The continuous review of programme design and preparation for the future as well as efforts in passing educational spirit from generations to generations were clearly seen. 4. He showed concerns about the shortage of teachers in KWNC as this is an issue to care about around the global nursing circles, and also an investigation project of ICN in the coming year. 5. He expected further deep exchange and cooperation with KWNC for dedication to the human well-being and health.
