Celebration to mark KWNC's 85th Anniversary and 10-year Tertiary Education

On 14th November, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau held series of activities at Plaza Restaurant to celebrate her 85th birthday, including a Cocktail Reception to Celebrate the 85th Anniversary of The Founding of KWNC and Letter Exchange Ceremony for the Cooperation Agreements with External Institutions, a Lecture on The Nursing Development Prospect in Guangdong and a dinner party. Before that, there had been a number of celebration projects co-organized by the College and Students' Union over the past year.

The dignitaries who jointly officiated at the Reception included: Mr. Edmund Ho, Chief Executive of Macao SAR, Mr. Xu Zhe, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Mr. Stanley Ho and Mr. Hoi Sai Iun, Honorary Deputy Chairman of Board of Directors of KWNC, Mr. Ma Iao Lai, Chairman of Board of Directors of KWNC, Vitor Ng, President of the Administrative Council of Macao Foundation, Mr. Lei Chin Ion, Director of Department of Health, Mr. Chan Pak-Fai, Director of Tertiary Education Services Office, Mr. Ho Va Tim and Mr. Ho Iat Seng, Vice-chairman of Board of Directors of KWNC, Ms. Ng Pui Kun, Secretary-general of Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association, Pro. Van Iat Kio, President of KWNC and Ms. Leong Lai Ian, Chairman of Executive Council of Students' Union of KWNC. More than four hundred guests from nursing circles around Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, representatives of the local higher education institutions and communities, the alumni, teachers and students were present at the cocktail reception.

Chairman Ma Iao Lai delivered a speech at the reception. He said that the College had experienced great reforms and advancement during the past ten years since her establishment. The programme running had been upgraded from the Higher Diploma in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing to the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Nursing launched this year. The cooperation involving joint programme running and scientific research projects had been developed actively with the SAR government departments, tertiary education institutions and various communities, thus numbers of health promotion workers of different levels and categories have been trained while health care knowledge could have been promoted and popularized to the society. Through combination of teaching, research and social service, the character quality and professional competence of students could have been raised constantly. To end the speech he thanked all the parties concerned for their supports to the College as well as all the College staff members who have made silent contributions over the years to the nursing education. At the Letter Exchange Ceremony, eight cross-straits medical institution representatives were invited to exchange cooperative agreements with the College. Immediately after the reception, Mr. Peng Gang Yi, Deputy Director of Medical Administrative Section of the Health Department of Guangdong Province gave a lecture on The Nursing Development Prospect in Guangdong . He introduced Guangdong's nursing development situation and the relevant specialty nurse training experience.

Attended by a great number of guests, alumni, teachers and students together with their families, the celebration dinner party in the evening was a warm and enthusiastic gathering among the old and new friends. The performance and conferment of service award sections brought to a climax of the night.
