2008/2009 School Reopening Ceremony & New Student Orientation
With fifty new students admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing P rogramme, including one from Deyang quake-hit area of Sichuan, the 2008/2009 School Reopening Ceremony of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau was held on Aug. 29th 2008. President Van Iat Kio started her speech by encouraging all the students to learn from the perseverance and undaunted spirit of the 2008 Beijing Olympic athletes to overcome difficulties in study. Meanwhile a task force was established specially to plan out systematic learning support programmes and activities, oriented to all students, from newly enrolled to graduates. Besides, the teaching team of the College, with the appointment of Professor Shen Ning, the former President of Peking Union Medical College as nursing education consultant, will be further reinforced in education quality.
To greet and celebrate her 85 th anniversary in the coming November, KWNC organized series of activities jointly with the Students' Union in the past year, including history analyze and College history study, College Motto design, etc. Further to the history study a seminar named ˇ§Nursing Care and Educationˇ¨ will be held in Nov. 15 th when lots of nursing teachers and students from 5 universities in Hong Kong and across the Straits will participate and give lecture on topics of nursing care. At the ceremony, Dr. Zhang Xuming, the Honorary Professor of the College and Director of Kiang Wu Hospital presented a general profile of the Hospital's service status to the audience. Then came the awarding section, three nurses from Kiang Wu Hospital and the Fifth Subsidiary Sun Yat-sen University Hospital were awarded the Best Clinical Preceptor Award 2007/2008. The ceremony came to an end after a sharing of experience by 2 Beijing Olympics Volunteer students.
From Aug. 29th to 31st, an orientation camp specially designed for the new students
took place
respectively at Centro de Formação Juvenil Dom Bosco and KWNC campus. Through many group games, group discussion and brief talks linking to different themes during the three days, the activity was aimed at helping all the new students understand their personal attributes and communication style, set up a close human relationship, learn how to get along with people and support with each other, share with the others the personal experience so as to get better understanding of the nursing profession.
